Santam's yellow umbrella is synonymous with short-term insurance in South Africa. Before the famous umbrella opened its ribs, a circle of chain links (each in a different colour) symbolised the security and stability of the group's services, which at that stage focused on banking and insurance. But on 19 May 1981, the umbrella officially replaced the chain.
